Knowledge part 2- Nosebleed

I am so curious with why, how nosebleed happens? And how to prevent it from happening again.

There are many reasons as to why nosebleed accured, I will only bring some of the causes that contribute it from happening. Causes that I think may or may not be applied to most people especially my family.

1. As nose is part of our body rich in blood vessels which is situated on a vulnerable place on the face. So, trauma to the face can cause injury to the nasal and bleed, it called 'blunt trauma'.

2. Infections, as usual such as nose picking, surgery, etc.

3. Low relative humidity of inhaled air (dry season), particularly during cold winter seasons. Suggested to apply ointment or some type to help to lubricate inside the area of the nose especially middle part. Vaseline is the only type I know, or you may check others.

4. Consuming exersive alcohol.

5. Vitamin C and Vitamin K deficiency.

6. This is the part that I learned so much of what to do during nosebleed (from http://www.medicinenet.com):

A. Pinch all the soft parts of the nose together between your thumb and index finger.

B. Press firmly toward the face - compressing the pinched parts of the nose against the bones of the face.

C. Lean forward slightly with the head tilted forward. Leaning back or tilting the head back allows the blood to run back into your sinuses and throat and can cause gagging or inhaling the blood.

D. Hold the nose for at least five minutes. Repeat as necessary until the nose has stopped bleeding.

E. Sit quietly, keeping the head higher than the level of the heart. Do not lay flat or put your head between your legs.

F. Apply ice (wrapped in a towel) to nose and cheeks.

Hope this article helps, especially when you have little kids at home or even self-help.
